The outgoing chief executive of Halfords has said the growing popularity of “staycations” in the UK have helped the cycling retailer record an increase in first-quarter sales. In the 20 week period to August 1, the company – which is also a motor specialist – recorded a 4.8 per cent uptick in total sales. This equated to a rise of 2.7 per cent on a like-for-like basis.
