  47. Company confidential: Freelance Developer (Kohana or Rails)
  48. (Anywhere)

I'm a freelance developer based out of Austin, Texas who works on a dozen or so websites.

Right now I have the opportunity to work on projects that I don't have time for, my schedule is full!  So instead of declining the projects I'm hoping to connect with a few talented developers and potentially create an ongoing relationship.  There are five projects that I could pass along and would require roughly 10 - 20 hours of your time per week.

Most of my projects utilize Kohana 2.3, but I'm shifting over to version 3.  If you have experience with CodeIgniter or any other frameworks I'm sure you'll love working with Kohana.  I haven't had any paid projects in Rails, but I know at least two of the projects are open to it.

Quality code and good communication are what have allowed my client base to grow so I would expect the same from you.

It's important to understand I'm looking for peers.  People who I can learn from and can learn from me.  If you are an amazing programmer I will most likely work with you out of the sheer desire to continue progressing as a programmer.

If you're not available right now still send me an email and maybe we can work together in the future.

Apply: Please send an email to 4973@jobs.authenticjobs.com with your hourly rate, availability and a few links to projects you currently work on.

  55. Company confidential: Immediate need for Web/Graphic Designer for ongoing work
  56. (Anywhere)

I'm a freelancer that work with nonprofits around the country and I've got way too much work to take on at this moment and have work to get started even over the weekend if someone is available.

But what i'm really looking for is someone to take on some of the overflow that I have. I do work ranging from print, flash banners, email design/coding/testing to website interfaces. You can get an idea of my work here.

The qualifications are this person should be fairly flexible, work quickly and sometimes without much direction. They need to be detail oriented, understand UI design and have a clean aesthetic. Someone that understands the capabilities of JQuery and other frameworks and working with grids is a plus. I'm ready to go when you are, so send over URL's, samples, contact info. Ideally, this person is another freelancer that isn't looking for a full-time job because I'd like to find someone that can be available for more work. I do work with nonprofits and i'm just another freelancer, so cost will definitely play a factor. But you'll hopefully have steady work and doing work for good causes!

Apply: Send an brief introduction, URL's, rate, samples and how to reach you. Like I mentioned above, I've got work that we can start on ASAP. Contact me at 4942@jobs.authenticjobs.com

  63. Saforian, Inc.: Backend PHP, Drupal, MySQL DB Developer
  64. (Anywhere, Washington DC Metro Area)

Saforian is a small, professional creative firm located in Northern Virginia. We are growing our team and looking for a talent.

Our flexible services focus on high-quality design, standards-based front-end code, and open source back-end development. We have a large variety of clients ranging from non-profits to restaurants to large corporations. Most of our exciting new projects are utilizing Drupal as the core CMS. Your role would be our primary back-end developer on these client sites: configuring Drupal, customizing existing modules, and creating custom ones when needed. You will also help define requirements for new projects, and take the lead in planning and developing new small-to-midsize PHP/MySQL web apps (outside of Drupal) for clients.

Being a creative firm, you will need to have a decent eye for design and coordinate with our visual and interface designers when developing user-friendly sites.

We do not have a central office, so you will be able to work independently from home. Preference will given to someone in the DC metropolitan area so we can still meet occasionally.

    Skills Requested:

    • Strong experience with professional and best practice PHP development
    • Advanced experience with Drupal custom module development (theming experience a plus)
    • Skilled with multiple database systems, MySQL required, MS SQL or Oracle a plus
    • Experience with LAMP based server required
    • Experience with integrating with 3rd party systems (MS SQL, Facebook, Twitter, etc) is a plus
    • JavaScript/jQuery experience desired.
    • Develop and test secure, clean, and well-commented code
    • Familiarity with Windows based servers a plus
    • Able to communicate and play well with our visual designers and front-end coders to ensure output is beautiful and user friendly
    • Decent web standards knowledge (HTML, CSS). You don't have to be a CSS and accessibility guru... just solid enough to maintain and expand valid templates from our ace front-end coders/themers
    • Able to multi-task on multiple projects at once
    • Can work independently from home and still meet tight deadlines
    • Willing to work up to full-time hours (40 a week) for a small, but growing design firm without a rigid corporate structure or office -- set your own hours as long as you get the job done
    • Can communicate well with clients and (if you're in the DC area) willing to attend meetings
    • Can start right away! We're hoping for a freelance developer with the availability to work up to a full-time schedule (40 hours). Start on a trial freelance/contract basis so you can get familiar with our company.

  99. English360: Senior Web Application UI Designer/Developer
  100. (New York City or Cambridge UK preferred (but flexible))

We are looking for a senior web application UI designer/developer to join our passionate team of  designers, developers and QA folks who are at the very top of their game, focusing on re-inventing education with our industry-leading web application.

Our company is a unique combination: it's a joint venture made up of a tiny e-learning startup with some big ideas, and one of the oldest, most prestigious educational publishers in the world, Cambridge University Press.

As our lead UI designer, you'll be responsible for shaping the entire English360 experience. This isn't just how our stuff looks - it's how it works. We're looking for someone with deep web application experience:  an innate ability to understand high level goals, design for optimal user experience, and translate those into user flows, screens, and final CSS/XHTML delivery.

  101. Vortech/Paxton: Web Developer, PHP/MySQL
  102. (Southern California (or Anywhere))

We are looking for  a competent web developer/consultant with strong back end skills who can write good code and give good advice.

    About Us:

We are a small Manufacturing company that makes Superchargers and related products. We have about 50 Employees but just 1 (me) working on websites.

We have five brands/sites, two of which we are focusing on:

    • vortechsuperchargers.com - this is our largest site. You might notice some sloppy markup if you view source; it will be fixed.
    • paxtonauto.com - this is another Supercharger brand, very similar to Vortech.

I am in the process of developing a shared framework to support both sites and need some help. I want to clean up some of the existing code and db structure from both sites to use in the framework and also add some new features, mostly having to do with user editing.

I am mainly a front end developer (HTML/CSS/Javascript) but I have been doing a lot of back end work on these sites. I would like to get some help from someone who has better back end skills than I do. If you also have front end skills then that would be great, too.

We run a dedicated LAMP server and the sites are written in PHP/MySQL, mostly custom written. I would be open to frameworks...

    About You:

We need someone with the following skills:

    • Application Design and Development (PHP/MySQL) - Please be able to help design an application based on a list of required features  (as opposed to simply code-monkeying to a hard spec).  In general, I am interested in code that is secure, runs fast and can be modified easily. Whatever methods you use are okay as long as the application works and it meets these requirements.
    • Database Design (hopefully this was implied in the above item.
    • Server Administration - It would be nice to have somebody who knows how to configure/install/upgrade LAMP software.
    • Front end - You will probably be doing at least a little bit of front end work for us so please be able to write clean HTML and  some Javascript. CSS/visual design skills are not necessary but let me know if you have them.

Our preference would be to find somebody who is able to meet in person at our office in Oxnard, CA at least once, but we are open to anybody.

    Budget/Timeline

I will need your input to come up with a budget. First, I would like to send you the source code that I'm working on so you can look through it and tell me what you think (good, bad, ugly), then we can talk more about what needs to be done with it and what features we are going to be adding. Once you have a better idea of what we need then you can give me a cost estimate.

I have been working on this project on and off for about 6 months and I am about halfway through. I would like to launch something before Summer.

Apply: Email me at amalmin@vortron.com with a link to your personal site and/or: info about your skills, sites you've worked on and maybe a few code samples. CC amalmin@gmail.com (spam filter) Feel free to call and chat: Andy 805-247-0226 ext 280

  107. Antonia: Photorealistic icon designer
  108. (Anywhere)

Antonia is a small but thriving branding agency, based in Paris, France, with clients around the world, and a strong presence in the Mac OS X development market.

To help our clients carry the identities we devise for them on Mac OS X  itself, as well as on related platforms such as the iPad and iPhone OS, we are looking for a designer specialising in photorealistic Mac OS X icons.

As a photorealistic icon designer, you would work with the Antonia team, whether on turning existing logos into icons or on creating identities from scratch — depending on the client and project —, creating icons that fit the Mac OS X interface, look great at a high resolution and accurately represent real world objects. You should have a good mastery of your 3D and graphic software of choice, as well as a deep understanding of the Apple HIG to create icons that look real, and fit in the overall Mac OS X aesthetic.

Please note this job entails no other design (at the moment), as our team already comprises vector designers, cartoonists, photographers, etc. We are looking especially for the ability to create photorealistic compositions that bring shapes, materials and light to life.

Please note that some (not all) work would be performed under NDA, which may limit your ability to post results on your own website.

Projects usually have firm start and finish dates, but we always go to great lengths to allow designers to set their own deadlines.

Compensation is computed on a per-hour basis, based on submitted time sheets, and is always calculated in euros. We welcome designers from any country, so long as this arrangement is compatible with their own banking setup.

Apply: Please send a plain text email to 4855@jobs.authenticjobs.com introducing yourself and your work, and linking to your site, blog or portfolio. Resumes are welcome but not mandatory. We require no formal training or diplomas, but may suggest a (paid) trial project to ascertain compatibility. No agencies, please.

  121. Company confidential: Re-start old ASP / Access - based site
  122. (Anywhere)

This job is fairly straightforward: I have a bunch of files that used to be 3 different ASP -based sites linked up with an Access databases. I would like to start these sites back up again. Job is just to get the files onto a host that still supports ASP, re-connect the data links so that the dynamic stuff works again, and hand over the connect details for the re-started site.

Sites are +-50 pages each, but no need to edit each page I would hope. Maybe just a couple find-replaces to get the data links working and a quick check to make sure you're not getting errors.

You will need to sign a non-discolsure agreement.

Yes, I know that ASP is way out of date and that Access databases are not good. This is for nostalgic purposes!

Apply: Send proposals to 4816@jobs.authenticjobs.com. Please specify which web host you plan to use: this will indicate whether you know where to get started and if you can recommend something cost-effective and workable. Please quote either as a lump-sum or hourly rate with an estimated # of hours.

    Business Model & Future

We are a subscription based business. The site is free to use for clubs, coaches and fans. Athletes have to pay $100/year. We expect to get 8,000 paying athletes for the next ski season and 30,000 for the following season. We see Skiing as our test market. Our goal is to expand to multiple sports and diversify our revenue sources through premium service offerings, e-commerce, digital goods ...etc.

    Current Status of Project

We are currently in Beta and our site is only being used by Ski & Snowboard Club Vail. Our plan is to keep testing the website with Vail for the remainder of the ski season and start marketing and sales to other clubs for the 2010-11 season starting in March '10.

    Retouching the Public Pages:
To support sales and to give a more accurate representation of what's going on we want to revamp the public pages on the site (including the splash page and the footer pages). The work will be front-end and graphics oriented. A detailed brainstorm will be provided to promising applicants.

    Future Opportunities:
We are currently in the early stages of a comprehensive rewrite process (that's why we don't have time to do these changes in house). If we are happy with your work we will offer you more front-end contract work for the interior pages.

    Work Process:
We prefer if you could work from our office during the length of the process but we are not completely closed to working with telecommuters as well. Our office is located in Palo Alto, California.

    Required Skills

Expert level knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Photoshop and preferably Flash.

Job Perks: Assuming you work from our office: We have an extremely cool work environment: Foosball Table, 50" Plasma TV with Wii and Xbox, an electric grill, food to grill, expresso machine. If we continue working together after this project you will also accompany us to "business" trips to ski resorts.

Apply: Please do NOT apply if you are only interested in a one time project. We want people can consistently contract out work to. Please include your resume, examples of your work, a fixed fee offer for this project and a daily rate for future reference. contract@skiclubz.com
