Waitrose trials 2 hour and same day delivery in London

Waitrose & Partners has today launched Waitrose Rapid Delivery, trailing two hour and same day delivery services in London. The up-market grocer has teamed up with last mile delivery start up On the dot and will use vans and cargo bikes to reduce emissions, before rolling out the scheme further. Waitrose will scrap all 5p plastic bags by next year

Waitrose has amplified efforts to reduce plastic waste by pledging to scrap single-use plastic bags across all its stores by next year. The grocer has committed to removing all 5p single-use bags and replace all bags for loose fruit and vegetables with a new compostable alternative by spring of 2019. It will trial the removal of 5p plastic bags in eight stores from October this year, including stores in Dorking, Newark and East Putney, to help understand how to manage the transition

M&S to allow online returns in Simply Food stores

Marks & Spencer has expanded its click & collect service so as to allow customers to now be able to make online returns at its Simply Food stores. While customers could previously collect their online orders in Simply Food stores, items could only be returned at larger-format M&S stores. Sainsbury’s crowned UK’s greenest supermarket

Sainsbury’s has been crowned the UK’s greenest supermarket, producing the lowest emissions some 12 times better than the worst offenders. According to new research from Engaged Tracking, Sainsbury’s emits the lowest number of greenhouse gases (GHG) out of the UK’s largest grocers, followed closely by its larger rival Tesco. Iceland came last, producing an intensity of emmisons 34 per cent higher than the average supermarket, while discounters Aldi and Lidl made up the next two bottom spots

The iconic department store has unveiled its Christmas shop today, dubbed Selfridges Rocks Christmas. The 2018 Loyalty Study conducted by TCC Global, which analysed 1000 in-depth interviews with shoppers across the country, found that the German discounters demanded a greater devotion from their customers than any other supermarkets in the UK

Games Workshop shares drop 6% despite huge jump in revenue

Games Workshop has continued to post runaway sales and profit figures meeting both its own and analysts expectations. Amid its annual report the table-top games retailer, which last year was the best performing company on the FTSE 250, saw revenues top £200 million for the first time, rising 39 per cent to £219 million in the 53 weeks to June 3. Meanwhile operating profits before receivable royalties came in at £64.7 million, nearly more than doubling from £30.8 million a year earlier
