The grocer plans to close 14 stores in the region, where it has operated since 1989. Eight of the locations will be converted to the Harris Teeter banner.

Farfetch has penned a new deal with one of the biggest distributors of fashion and luxury goods in the Middle East to help it increase its market share in the region. The joint venture with the Chalhoub Group, which partners with luxury brands who want to trade in the Middle East, will see it combine its expertise in retail, distribution and marketing of luxury retail across the region with Farfetch’s ecommerce, technology and logistics platform. The partnership will lead to the launch of an Arabic-language version of Farfetch’s platform in the first half of the year, a curation products for Middle Eastern consumers, and increase local supply by bringing Chalhoub’s network of retailers — including Level Shoes, Level Kids and Tryano — as well as other partner franchises to the Farfetch platform.
Premium cosmetics and home brand Rituals has opened its first store outside of London at Birmingham’s Grand Central shopping centre. The decision to open the new 1620sq ft shop, which sells Rituals’ range of bath, body and home products, was based on Birmingham’s position as the UK’s second city and Grand Central’s reputation as one of the region’s leading retail destinations. The new store also offers a free mini meditation service and a “lifestyle” area where customers are treated to a complimentary hand and arm massages and pure tea.
