A warning about a “highly competitive” holiday season overshadowed what was, in many ways, a positive quarter for Target Corp.

Walmart has closed the pricing gap with Amazon in recent years, but Target remains nearly 17% more expensive, according to a pricing study from e-commerce analytics firm Profitero.
Some retailers like Target and Lidl are calling on clauses written into their lease agreements that lets them limit what Amazon can and can't do in nearby Whole Foods stores.
“We are going into the fourth quarter with a lot of optimism,” said Rick Gomez, Target's chief marketing officer.
